Quick answer

Which is better for tradies, hipages or ServiceSeeking?

Neither is better for every trade. hipages charges a monthly subscription with lead credits and lets up to 3 businesses claim each lead. How does hipages work for tradies?

hipages charges a recurring subscription that includes lead credits. When you claim a job you use credits, and hipages says up to 3 businesses can successfully claim each lead. Its FY26 results show 33,000 Australian subscription businesses with average subscription revenue of $2,575 per business for the year.

In May 2023 hipages gave the ACCC a court enforceable undertaking after admitting it likely misled subscribers by not clearly disclosing automatic 12 month renewals and early termination fees. It now sends renewal reminders by email and SMS. Read the terms before you sign. The full hipages review goes deeper.

How does ServiceSeeking work for tradies?

ServiceSeeking moved to a membership model with no commission. Membership starts from $129 a month including GST, and the price mostly depends on how many leads it expects to send you, your industry and your location. You choose a coverage package of 10km, 20km or 50km, and there is no cap on categories.

ServiceSeeking says a job receives an average of 4.6 quotes, so expect to compete, and answer fast. Paying quarterly saves 20% and paying annually saves 40%, but only commit for longer once you know your cost per won job.

How does Airtasker work for tradies?

Airtasker has no subscription. Customers post a task, businesses make offers and the customer picks one. When you complete a task, Airtasker takes a service fee: 20% at Bronze, 18.5% at Silver, 14.9% at Gold and 12.5% at Platinum, all excluding GST. Your tier depends on your completion rate and your earnings over the previous 30 days.

It suits jobs you can price from a description and finish quickly. For licensed work that needs a site visit and a detailed quote, the percentage fee and the price driven bidding can make it a harder fit.

Which lead site should you choose?

Whichever you try, track cost per won job: everything the channel costs in a month, including your quoting time, divided by jobs actually won. Give it three months, then keep the winner and drop the rest.

  • New to the area with no reviews yet: a lead site can fill early gaps while you build your Google profile.
  • Emergency trades: speed of reply matters most, so pick the one you can answer fastest and keep your own profile strong for direct calls.
  • Small tasks and handyman work: Airtasker's pay per task model usually fits better than a subscription.
  • Higher value project work: your own website, project photos and referrals usually win more than any lead site.
